Wine is wonderful on its own, but best as part of a bigger experience

Whether we’re splitting a bottle with close friends or sipping something new with each course at a restaurant, our favorite pairing is pretty simple: Italian wine, Italian food, and great people. With that in mind, we are excited to be collaborating on a series of Italian wine and food-focused experiences with Cielo y Terra, the winemaker behind our award-winning Villa Amoroso line of Italian wine.

From Downtown Los Angeles…

For our first event in July, we were proud to invite several Wine Insiders customers and their guests to join members of the Wine Insiders team and sommelier Chris Hoel at Otium, Chef Timothy Hollingsworth’s fine dining restaurant in downtown L.A.

The evening began with a cocktail hour, featuring a tasting of Villa Amoroso Pinot Grigio D.O.C. led by our in-house winemaker Tyson Koster, and a special menu of hors d'oeuvres that Timothy Hollingsworth had prepared for pairing with the wine.

After cocktail hour, the party moved to a private dining area for a seated, multi-course dinner that included huge tomahawk steaks and agnolotti pasta, along with wine to pair with it all. During the meal, Chef Timothy Hollingsworth—who is now a member of our Wine Advisory Panel—shared his ideas behind the meal and the wine pairings.

…to sunny Santa Monica

In October, we invited a new group of Wine Insiders customers for an Evening of Italian Wine at Upper West, a loftlike restaurant on Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica.

At this intimate gathering, our guests were treated to an olive oil tasting bar featuring a variety of infused olive oils, each of which complemented or contrasted Villa Amoroso Pinot Grigio’s zesty profile.

As the guests sipped and sampled, they nibbled a menu of appetizers and other light fare planned to provide a full experience with the wine. To keep the fun going at home, every guest left with a gift bag featuring our Italian wine and some other wine accessories.
