Discover an aromatic, slightly off-dry white wine from an intriguing region: Hungary. 2019 Tűzkő Traminer is a Hungarian take on one of Europe’s oldest grape varieties. Bright golden yellow in the glass, this Traminer first captures attention with an elegant bouquet of peaches, mandarin oranges, and grapefruits, complemented with hints of rose petals. These fruit and floral notes exhibit freshness on the palate with a full-bodied mouthfeel. Traminer grapes (also known as Gewürztraminer) were carefully selected from vineyards across the hilly Tolna wine region and brought to Tűzkő Estate, located south of Budapest near the village of Bátaapáti. Tűzkő Estate boasts a long history of viticulture, and it is home to a curious underground cellar, carved from loess, that has kept the same temperature for the past 300 years. Aging of wines takes place within this historic cavern, and winemakers combine this process with modern techniques to craft high-quality, expressive wines. Serve 2019 Tűzkő Traminer with appetizers, vegetables, seafood, and white meat. It will also pair well to Indian cuisine and spicy dishes. This wine is featured in Episode 1 of our podcast, Sniff Sip Repeat.

      A delightful find

The first time in eons that I wasn't bothered by a white wine later by acid. Nice and light without being too thin. I did chill in fridge for a few hours first. I was glad to see this showed back up to order as I ordered the Hungary red at the time. I had never had any from Hungary before. I can see making shrimp scampi with it and drinking some while eating it.

      Great white for pasta

Perfect pairing with carbonara! My guests raved about this one, and slightly scolded me for not having a second bottle when it ran out, lol. One said, "perfectly dry, where did you get this?"

      Tastes like Antifreeze

This wine is not drinkable. I do not know what is in it, but it smells and tastes like antifreeze to me.
