Discover a bright wine made from Austria’s most-planted red grape in 2017 Villa Haas Zweigelt. Dry and light-bodied with red fruit notes, Zweigelt has similar qualities to Pinot Noir. Opening with an elegant bouquet, this richly-colored red expresses tart cherries and raspberries with floral touches. The palate is fruity with spicy overtones, followed by soft tannins and a satisfying finish. Home to mountainous vineyards planted across diverse terroir, Austria as a wine region is perhaps lesser known, but just as exciting as its European counterparts. The country’s cooler climate is well-suited toward producing fresh, refined wines with pure fruit expression. Grown in Niederösterreich by a winery established in 1906, grapes were hand-harvested and matured on fine lees before bottling. Best served slightly chilled, this Zweigelt will add pizzazz to grilled foods and picnic nibbles: think barbecue chicken, bratwurst, and macaroni salad. It’s also surprisingly complementary to shellfish, especially when cooked in a vinegary or tomato-based broth. Adorned with a charming villa, the label makes this bottle a great housewarming gift for red wine lovers! Dry, bright and tart

Dry, bright and tart. Decayed for an hour before tasting. Hints of cherry and cinnamon.

      Pleasant surprise!

Really love this simple, but well made Zweigelt from Austria. Like a friendly cross between Pinot Noir and Dolcetto, it displays nice earth tones on a light, clean frame. Might be in its last legs for a 2017, but still drinking so well.

      Table wine

A very ordinary red wine - not offensive, just "meh". Reminds me of the cheap stuff we drank 40 years ago in post-graduate school.

      Not a fan

Flavor was bitter, the colors were light and the body was light
