Uncork fresh, zesty flavor from down under with 2023 Paperbark White Blend, a dry, light-bodied wine with an award-winning pedigree. Pale straw in color with green tints, this Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc blend opens with aromas of lemongrass, passionfruit, and freshly cut grass. It shows a fruity palate with layers of guava, papaya, and lemongrass. Crisp acidity lends a persistent, clean finish that is wonderfully refreshing. Grapes were harvested in the cool morning and carefully handled to ensure maximum flavor extraction while preserving each variety’s natural fruitiness. The result is a white blend that is approachable and easy-drinking. From a fifth-generation winemaking family in South Australia, Paperbark wines are as loveable as their namesake: an Australian tree with peeling bark and fluffy white flowers. Enjoy 2023 Paperbark White Blend chilled, either on its own or with lighter entrées, such as grilled fish, mild curries, and summer salads. It will also complement cheese plates and crab cocktails.

      Ok, but nothing special

Paperback White Blend was a bit sweet and slightly syrupy for my taste. (I realize this is a subjective preference.) Also, the finish was rather flat and I was unable to denote any subtleties of other flavors that can make a wine interesting. Prefer Finca del Marquesada Blanca or Del La Rougerie Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. Flores Reserva Chardonnay from Chile had just a touch of sweetness but offered sophisticated notes of tropical fruits. So while Paperback wine was not bad, I found others in the same price range a better value and more enjoyable.
