The terroir of this wine is so famous that it is one of the few to have given its name to an appellation, Graves. Located on the Left Bank of the Garonne with the forest of Landes to the southwest, it consists of terraces of pebble and gravelled shaped croupes. In the Middle Ages, it was the vineyard of Bordeaux, which provided most of the light red clarets, but today produces red and dry white wine. Grown on 30-year-old vines in Bordeaux’s historic Graves subregion, this blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc is a bright red in the glass with a powerful nose of black fruits and a mineral touch. The palate is robust with prominent tannins, but the overall feel is balanced and expressive. This is a big wine and should be opened an hour before tasting.
