A Tuscan favorite with expressive character, 2019 Cala De' Poeti Maremma Toscana D.O.C. is the latest vintage in a line of Platinum Medal-winners. This delectable red blend is produced by Castellani, a Tuscan-based family winery with four generations of winemaking experience. Dry and complex, this ruby red wine is based on the “Super Tuscan” blend, comprised of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. It sparkles with intense aromas of fresh fruit. Lively notes of cherry, blackberry, violet, and white chocolate lead to a satisfying finish with soft tannins. Known as Italy’s Wild West, the Maremma section of the Tuscan coastline has a landscape of white sandy beaches that give way to classic rolling hills covered in olive trees and magnificent vineyards. Grapes are nourished by Maremma’s sun, sand, clay, and sea breeze and then hand-picked to create high-quality wines with great character. Since 1903, the Castellani family has crafted traditional wines while embracing the latest innovations in winemaking. For Piergiorgio Castellani, “the quality of the wine begins in the vineyard.” His devotion to the land is evident in his home’s location: nestled in the center of one of the family vineyards. Discover authentic Italian flavor in Castellani’s art-inspired Cala De’ Poeti line. The labels feature reproductions of oil paintings, depicting flowers and landscapes overflowing with exuberance, much like the flavors of Cala De’ Poeti. Delicious with food, 2019 Cala De' Poeti Maremma Toscana D.O.C. is perfect as an everyday drinking wine. Pair this with grilled meats, lasagna, and aged cheeses. Castellani Family Winery

Great value

"This may not be the most complex wine but it certainly can hold its own and is a fine complement with lasagna and Italian food with basil , tomatoes, oregano and garlic. One of the more smooth and supple red wines I have tried with WI and I keep returning to it again and again since it is such a great value and fairly versatile. (Warning: It is smooth enough that it is easy to overindulge. ) I have given it as gifts and people think I am wonderful. (I don't want to disappoint them and tell them I am not. ) Definitely one of my favorites."

Fair

"It's an ok wine but not quite as smooth as I like."

Good Italian

"I'm new to wine and trying to get into it. This really reminds me of the cheap wines in Rome. Good basic easy drinking wine. It's not going to make your mouth dry later. It's not overly fruit like Napa. It's not a block buster. This is a party wine for me, and great in Rome. I like this Tuscan one better than the ones in the liquor store we've tried."

Summer Sustenance

"Italians do wine that present well in summer heat. This dry Tuscan is superb with grilling and my choice tonight, a spinach and artichoke slice and a spinach pinwheel on the way home from work. A wine that must be had with food. Dark fruits up front, medium to full bodied."

"Maybe it's because I like super sweet wines, or I paired it with something bad, but this isn't the wine for me. Drier than my taste buds perefer."
