Dried cherry aromas dominate the nose with wonderful red fruit flavor, while secondary notes of raisin and spices deliver an autumnal warmth. Hints of tobacco, dried herbs, and baking spices complete a rustic, earthy flavor profile. The wine is rich and full of tingling acidity on the palate, uncharacteristic of a bold Italian red. Ca’Gregorie translates to the winery of the Gregoris family, the progenitors of this delicious red wine. The family tree covers an extensive history of winemaking in Veneto, set against the rolling hills and beautiful architecture depicted on the label. Veneto is perhaps best known for producing the Italian sparkler Prosecco. However, its rich soils and sunny climate also make a terrific stomping ground for other Mediterranean grapes like Amarone, Soave, and of course, this rich Valpolicella. Ca’Gregorie created this Valpolicella in the ripasso method, making it the perfect wine for more decadent dishes. Serve with hearty pasta, risotto dishes, beef stew, steaks, or braised short ribs.

Excellent for pasta & beef dishes

Nice lingering mouth feel, lots of smooth fruity flavors and enough tannin to leave just a bit of pucker in the mouth. A bit of tobacco hint that is enhanced by the dark stone fruits. It paired well with an open faced burger & noodles and again with bits of chocolate after dinner. Will buy again.

Good, But Extracting Cork is Still a Problem

This is a very good Italian Red. Not as good as the previous vintage (not as flavorful), but still decent. The problem still exists with extracting the cork. Unless you have a professional corkscrew, you will be in trouble. A standard electric corkscrew will not work, nor will a lightweight wing model. Inserting the worm into the cork is also a challenge. You will need something to help mechanically pull the cork out, unless you are Mr. Atlas.
