Explore an ancient yet crisp French white with our 2021 Grain de Lune Sauvignon Gris.
While similar in appearance to a Sauvignon Blanc, the nose is notably less herbaceous, instead exhibiting intense aromas of citrus and tropical fruit. The palate is full-bodied and well-rounded, while secondary notes of acacia flowers impart a delicate fragrance. Finally, the finish is short, crisp, and tinged with pleasant tang and spice.
Sauvignon Gris is an ancient mutation of Sauvignon Blanc and one of France's most unique white varietals. The fruit is diminutive in size and light in color, imbuing this Grain de Lune white wine with the pale golden hues of a full moon. The berries benefited from Grain de Lune’s enriching clay-silt soils nestled between the villages of Blasimon and Sauveterre. Bordeaux’s temperate maritime climate proved exceptional breeding grounds for this unique white, earning it the 90-point “best buy” award by Wine Enthusiast two years in a row.
Similar to its crisp white cousins, this Sauvignon Gris is perfectly suited as an aperitif. If you’re feeling hungry, this white amplifies the subtle flavors in lighter French dishes like oysters with thyme mignonette, poached sea bass, or a fruit and cheese board of Gruyère and Bûche de Chèvre.
